The major focus of my writing is giving readers great stories about characters they can relate to and grow with. So many kids haven't found the diverse characters they want to read about, characters who come from backgrounds that defy stereotypes and tropes.  And those are the best, most interesting kind! My characters are diverse in many ways, but most importantly, my characters are always authentic and in search of truth. We are all made up of so many amazing and wonderful bits of this and that, but sometimes we don't see where we can fit in. My stories help readers see themselves through the words of other people like them. But at the same time, I want readers to step out of their comfort zone, and experience worlds and characters who come from backgrounds that are different from their own.  To that end, I don't just write for Black people and about Black people.  I write about characters who speak to and portray the humanity in all of us.
